Gonzo’s Quest Megaways Slot Review: Avalanches and Free Fall

Gonzo’s Quest™ Megaways™ game artwork by Red Tiger

Gonzo’s Quest Megaways links falling-symbol Avalanches to a multiplier ladder, with a separate progression for Free Fall. Winning symbols disappear to make space for replacements, and a bonus can interrupt a chain before returning to it afterward. For the RTP and maximum win, this article follows the published YesPlay ZAR configurations for South Africa. Those figures carry that operator scope, without establishing a default elsewhere.

Variable ways and avalanches

Six reels can each show up to seven symbols, producing a maximum of 117,649 Megaways. The actual ways count varies with reel heights. Winning symbols explode and disappear, then new symbols fall into the gaps; Avalanches continue until there are no more wins. In the base game, the first winning way raises the Avalanche Multiplier to 2x, the second to 3x and the third to 5x. The 5x value remains for subsequent wins in that spin, and the multiplier resets when the spin ends.

Earthquake may randomly destroy all low-paying symbols, allowing only high-paying replacements in the following respins. Wilds behave differently from ordinary winning symbols: they do not break when participating in a win. At most two may be present, one on reels one to three and the other on reels four to six. They substitute for paying symbols and Free Fall symbols, linking their survival in the chain to both ordinary payouts and bonus entry.

Free Fall changes the multiplier

Free Fall requires a winning way of at least three Free Fall symbols, or at least two Free Fall symbols plus a Wild. Each symbol participating in that way awards three Free Spins. The bonus Avalanche Multiplier follows the stated ladder of 3x, 6x, 9x and 15x. Those are Free Fall’s progression values, distinct from the base-game increases to 2x, 3x and 5x. Additional Free Spins may be won during the round.

After Free Fall, play returns to the previous scene. The symbols that triggered the bonus are destroyed, allowing the interrupted sequence to continue. The multiplier from the last respin before bonus entry also remains until there are no more wins. This carryover belongs to the resumed base-game chain: it is the pre-bonus value that returns, rather than the Free Fall ladder carrying into unrelated later spins.

Configuration, carryover and limits

YesPlay’s published South African ZAR rules list approximately 95.77% RTP and an exact maximum multiplier of 20,972.4x for its R2m, R5m and R10m payout configurations. The corresponding maximum cash wins are R2,097,240, R4,194,480 and R10,486,200. Red Tiger lists 95.77%; Evolution lists 94.66% / 96.00%. Both official figures are retained, with no explanation inferred. Red Tiger separately reports a numeric volatility index of 30.84; it is not presented as a verbal class or as a YesPlay-specific figure.

The return to an interrupted scene gives the game continuity beyond the bonus itself. Players track the current ways, replacement symbols and multiplier stage, then resume the earlier chain after Free Fall. The trade-off is a longer resolution with several states to distinguish. A qualifying way is required for bonus entry, and the two-Wild limit also constrains which positions can supply substitution.

Majestic Mysteries Power Reels — Both games use tall reel layouts, but Gonzo’s Quest advances a win multiplier through avalanches whereas Majestic Mysteries locks and clones matching symbols across spins.

Strengths and weak points

Strengths

The per-spin base ladder, distinct Free Fall progression and restoration of the pre-bonus multiplier give the interrupted Avalanche chain a clearly defined continuation.

Weaknesses

Avalanches and bonus entry depend on wins, while variable ways and high published maximums describe possible ceilings rather than typical results.

Our Editor’s View

Gonzo’s Quest™ Megaways™ separates the basic Avalanche multiplier, which resets each spin, from Free Fall’s bonus ladder and its return to an interrupted chain. That gives the game a useful sequence to follow, but wins, cascades and bonus entry all remain conditional. Readers who enjoy tracking linked state changes may value the structure; those wanting a fixed grid and a short rule set may find it busy. The YesPlay figures apply only to its stated South African ZAR payout configurations, and official RTP listings differ.
