Google Analytics uses _ga to distinguish visitors and _ga_HJPPYTKGFE to maintain session state. The configured default cookie duration is two years; browser limits may shorten it, and continued use with consent can renew it. GA4 currently retains event-level data for two months and user-level data for fourteen months, with user retention renewed on new activity. These settings do not determine how long aggregate reports are retained.
