Crystal Quest: Frostlands sends Gemma into an icy landscape with a large-symbol change to the series’ Avalanche format. Massive Symbols can occupy several positions at once, while Free Spins retain the growing multiplier and give otherwise unused Wilds an explosive role. The design is best understood by separating more symbol coverage from a larger multiplier: they can support the same result, but they are earned through different events.

Massive Symbols change coverage on the six-reel board
The layout has six reels, four rows and 4,096 pay ways. Regular combinations generally need three matching symbols from the left, while the highest-paying Feral Commander can pay with two. Winning symbols clear for Avalanches and replacements enter for another evaluation. A multiplier begins at 1x and advances one stage with each Avalanche, resetting at the start of a new ordinary spin.
Massive Symbols can appear as 2×2 or 3×3 blocks, crushing symbols beneath them. Regular paying types can take this form; Wilds and Scatters are excluded. The feature therefore changes how much of the grid one paying type can occupy, rather than multiplying the Scatter count or creating an enormous Wild block. Its location still matters because the resulting symbols must participate in the game’s evaluated combinations.
Free Spins retain the multiplier rather than every symbol
Three treasure-chest Scatters award twelve Free Spins, with three more opening spins for each additional Scatter. The bonus retains the win multiplier between spins. This is a persistence rule for the numerical modifier, not a promise that a Massive Symbol remains locked on the same positions throughout the feature. Fresh spins can present different coverage while using the multiplier already built.
That creates a clear interaction: a helpful Massive Symbol arriving later in the bonus can meet a multiplier developed earlier. The same two ingredients may fail to align, however. A large symbol can appear on an unhelpful arrangement, and a high retained multiplier can wait through a spin without a useful win. The attraction is their potential combination, without a known schedule guaranteeing when it occurs.
Unused Wilds can reopen a stalled bonus spin
When no winning combination remains during Free Spins, visible Wilds explode and clear symbols along their rows and columns, protecting Scatters. That clearing starts another Avalanche and can provide another opportunity to advance the multiplier. It is a bonus-specific second role for Wilds: they can substitute in a win or reshape the board when ordinary winning activity has stopped.
Two Scatters during the feature add three spins, with two more for every additional Scatter. The current public card lists 96.16% RTP and high volatility, while the confirmed overall ceiling is 15,000x the stake. The progressive multiplier has no stated fixed upper stage, but that does not remove the payout ceiling. Opening allocations, retrigger additions and explosion-led Avalanches are distinct sources of extra activity and should not be counted as the same event.
Strengths and weak points
Strengths
Massive regular symbols add coverage while the bonus retains a separately earned multiplier. Wild Explosions give a stalled feature spin another route to clearing and evaluation.
Weaknesses
Wilds and Scatters cannot become Massive Symbols. Large coverage still needs a useful combination, and bonus persistence retains the multiplier rather than locking every large symbol in place.
Our Editor’s View
Frostlands gives its familiar Avalanche structure a positional addition through Massive Symbols. Its strongest interaction comes when their coverage meets a multiplier preserved from earlier bonus activity, with Wild Explosions able to reopen a stalled board. The limitation is that those events remain separately conditional and need not align. It suits readers who enjoy a broad ways layout and a bonus that can develop across spins, provided they distinguish retained multiplication from retained symbols and treat 15,000x as the game ceiling rather than an inevitable endpoint of uncapped progression.
