Beneath the Pyramids
A doorway in the desert promises one sort of adventure; what lies beyond it can be quite another. In these Egyptian slots, the route might lead to a pharaoh’s tomb, Cleopatra’s court, a struggle between Ra and Osiris, or a chamber guarded by a mummy. The familiar signs of ancient Egypt are everywhere, but the games do not all ask the same thing of them.
Beneath the Pyramids gathers 20 published reviews from four studios. Book of Dead GO Collect follows Rich Wilde into another chapter, while Tomb of Akhenaten and Tomb of Nefertiti give two rulers very different settings. Ramses Revenge sends explorers through an Egyptian pursuit; Fury of Anubis looks to a god instead. The tombs give this collection its quietest kind of suspense. Tomb of Akhenaten opens its board as wins build, while Tomb of Nefertiti changes the shape of its payline game through locked wilds and respins. Mummy’s Jewels turns coloured wilds and a collector into a treasure hunt. Tomb of Gold Reimagined takes a slower, atmospheric route. Similar stone walls can frame very different ideas once the rules come into view.
The gods and rulers shift the emphasis. Ra vs Osiris stages a rivalry with two feature profiles; Fury of Anubis separates the multipliers that grow during a spin from those that set up free spins. Eye of Atum and Gods of Giza bring their own divine imagery, while Luxor of Cleopatra and Heart of Cleopatra give the queen different roles in their games. A name on the cover tells you who is present, not how the feature works.
There are explorers here too. Rich Wilde’s Book of Dead GO Collect follows coins toward a vault, and John Hunter Book of the Fallen uses an Eye-of-Anubis book with more than one purpose.
